What is a FINISH?
Finishing, or applying a protective or refining coating to concrete, is the final step in making Konkéré furniture pieces. The finish on our concrete slabs helps seal pores and elicit a beautiful lustre whilst protecting from moisture, oil and other elements.
We have three product finishes at Konkéré Designs and they are distinguished by their look and feel. The peculiarities of each of these finishes are described in this article.
EPOXY
Since its discovery in the 1930s, epoxy has gained popularity for a variety of industrial uses and benefits, particularly in the building industry. Epoxy is a substance created when epoxide polymer is mixed with a hardening agent, which converts the previously soft epoxy into a stiff material that is impermeable to chemicals, oil, grease, stains, and abrasions.
Epoxy ensures a much higher quality, smooth and well-bonded finish. No wonder the requirements and methods for producing an epoxy coating are expensive and rigorous. Nevertheless, if you desire a perfectly smooth and extra-durable finish, Epoxy is your go-to.

LACQUER
It is a modern finish often used for high-end furniture pieces. It may be used to improve the appearance of items created from numerous materials, including wood, concrete, and even ceramic.
It is quick-drying, impermeable to water, and maintains its transparency as it ages. Lacquer finishes are popular because they don’t yellow with age, require little maintenance and protect against liquid.
Compared to Epoxy Finish, Lacquer is less expensive and has a thinner coverage. So, for a durable and glossy finish, try Lacquer.

MATTE
Matte Finish is achieved by grinding the concrete slab’s surface and then polishing it. Unlike Epoxy and Lacquer, Matte Finish is known for its unpolished and raw appearance. It is distinctive for several reasons, including simplicity and roughness. Also, it brilliantly hides imperfections since it absorbs light instead of reflecting it. So, choose the Matte Finish if you prefer a natural appearance.
